All happy to get to my next scottish destination: Aviemore, I get to the train station, around 8 am, only to find out that my train is cancelled. The past days of rain, which I thought was typical Scottish weather, was heavier rainfall than usual and there has been some landslide and flooding of the tracks to Aviemore. Here are a few photos of Edinburgh while heading to the station.
The nice person there at the train station tells me there will be no speedy fixing and I better get the bus. There I head to the bus station, no space for Aviemore until the 4pm bus, well, what can I do, I book it and try to figure out my day. Luggage lockers there are stupidly expensive so I head to the nearest hostel, which is a Hostelling Scotland hostel (nothing but love for these hostels, they’re amazing!) I explain my problem and the lady at the front desk has no problem with me storing my luggage there until I have to take the bus. Amazing people. I can even chill there if I want, but I decide to go next door, to a little coffee place called OQO, very tasty food and hot drinks.
I hang out there to draw for a while and then decide to brave the cloudy weather and get to Calton Hill. Beautiful view over Arthur’s Seat there. And over the city.
At 4pm departure for Aviemore, 3 hours to get there.
